Vinyl Flooring |
Vinyl flooring offers many benefits not found in other floors:
Vinyl Flooring Maintenance
Immediately After Installation
Keep traffic light during the first 24 hours, so the adhesive has time to dry properly. If the floor has been seamed, avoid walking on the seam sealer for 24 hours so it can setup properly and not become smeared. Also, avoid scrubbing or washing the floor for atleast 3 days after installation. If you have to do some cleaning spot clean the areas while avoiding the seams. Clean any adhesive residue off the floor with a clean white cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
General Care
Support furniture with wide-bearing non-staining protectors. Ideally, the protectors should be at least one inch in diameter, made of non-pigmented hard plastic, lay completely flat on the floor, and be totally smooth on the bottom. Casters with a minimum ¾" flat surface width or floor protectors are recommended for all movable furniture. Make sure any metal protectors are rust proof. Replace your narrow dome furniture rest with wide load bearing ones.
Place door mats outside of each entrance of your home. They will help prevent dirt, sand, oil, driveway sealer, and other substances from being tracked in onto your new floor. Do not use rubber backed mats or cocofiber mats because they may damage the surface of your floor. If you need to move heavy furniture or appliances, always use some type of plywood, underlayment, or hard board to help prevent the floor from being cut. Torn, or gouged. Runways must be used even if you are using an appliance dolly, or even if the heavy object is equipped with wheels. Runways are extremely important on newly installed floors where the adhesive may not be totally cured. Whenever possible close your drapes where light may cause everything – furniture, carpet, wallpaper, curtains, and floor - to fade or discolor.
Sweep and damp mop the floor regularly. Remove spills and ground-in dirt by damp mopping with the manufacturer’s cleaner for your vinyl flooring. Do not use soap because it will leave a film that will make the floor begin to appear dull. For heavily soiled areas, or to strip old floor polish use the manufacturer’s Cleaner & Stripper. Do not use abrasive type cleaners on your floor. To restore the luster, or to add extra protection to your vinyl flooring use the manufacturer’s polish.
